Episode 12 (2026): Never Alone: What Grief Teaches a Man Who Still Believes

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

Most men are taught how to provide, perform, lead, and hold things together. Far fewer are taught how to grieve.

When loss comes, our instinct can be to compartmentalize the pain, stay busy, shut others out, and convince ourselves that strength means carrying the burden privately.

In this episode of the Unshaken Power of 4 Podcast, the conversation becomes deeply personal as our own Dr. Steve Bagley shares his journey following the sudden loss of his wife, Linda.

Drawing from his experience and his book Never Alone, Steve talks openly about what grief taught him about vulnerability, friendship, faith, God's comfort, and the danger of isolation.

The conversation explores questions many men may eventually face:

• Why do men tend to isolate when they are hurting?

• What does grieving alone cost a man and the people around him?

• Can deep grief shake our faith?

• What does God's gentleness look like in the middle of loss?

• Why is allowing other men to walk alongside us a form of strength rather than weakness?

• How can a man prepare himself and his relationships before grief arrives?

• How can the comfort we receive from God become comfort for someone else?

Three Practical Takeaways

1. Name One Man

Identify one brother you could actually call if loss entered your life tomorrow. If you cannot name him, begin building that relationship now, before you need it.

2. Ask for God's Gentleness

Bring your grief honestly before God, and don't be afraid to let trusted brothers hear what you are carrying. Isolation loses its grip when we allow others in.

3. Prepare Before the Storm

Strong relationships and biblical community are not only for times of crisis. Build them now. Prepare your heart and surround yourself with brothers who will stand with you when difficult seasons come.

Biblical Foundation

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 reminds us that God is the God of all comfort. He meets us in our affliction and equips us to extend that same comfort to others.

The comfort God gives us is not meant to end with us.

If you are walking through grief today, remember: you do not have to perform strength, and you do not have to carry your pain alone.
